My art interest goes way back to elementary school when I was thrilled to have a paper mosaic in a student exhibit at the local art museum! I have always been drawn to fibers of all sorts, perhaps because of the early influence of my mother who is an avid stitcher.
Fabric appeals to me because of it’s texture, wide range of color and pattern, it’s ability to be shaped, manipulated and combined with other materials. My current fiber work is mostly non-representational, but I would like to think that it sometimes suggests elements of the real world to the viewer.
Early on, each piece was painstakingly drawn and planned. My current approach is to choose fabrics and colors, to begin working, and to let the work evolve.
