Second Saturday Event July 11: Meet the Artists Joan North and Pat Gaska 10-2.
Mission: The aim of Graham Coulson Furniture is to produce high quality modern furniture made from solid wood. I use the qualities of wood together with attention to proportion to produce items of beauty and function
Inspirations: Taking my inspiration from modernist and mid century designers and applying handcrafted techniques I hope to produce designs that are relevant to today that will become treasured pieces for tomorrow.
Materials: I prefer to use native species that can be sourced locally. My most commonly used woods are walnut, cherry, black ash and maple. I choose all my wood personally and ensure that each panel I make has the best figure and balance that can be achieved.
Finishes: My finish of choice for most woods is Danish oil. It is a traditional woodworking finish that provides a hard wearing, water resistant satin finish. On darker woods it really brings out the beauty of the grain. On lighter woods I prefer water based polyurethane as it does not darken the wood.
