I trained in Fine Art as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin in the 80’s. I worked briefly as a commercial artist. I moved to Nashville in 1989 with my husband and three kids where I attended Vanderbilt University and became a nurse practitioner and then a nurse midwife in 1994. I never stopped drawing and painting during this time but it was occasionally interrupted due to family and professional responsibilities.
In 2016 I retired from my academic/clinical career at Vanderbilt to return to full time work as an artist. I spent 8 lovely years living and working in rural Tennessee. I built my own studio, welcomed a granddaughter and navigated the challenges of a pandemic. Having spent the majority of my art career as a representational artist in September of 2020 I was surprised to find myself exploring abstraction. I now happily live in both worlds moving comfortable between them. Light and color drive them both. Even more surprising is that in May of 2022, after living in Tennessee for 32 years, I returned to my home state of Wisconsin along with my husband, daughter and granddaughter. My son Chris , my son Jonathan and my daughter in law Megan still reside in TN.
I work mostly in oil and am particularly fond of cold wax as a medium in my abstract work.
